Toyota: No Plan For Diesel Engine-Making Plant In Poland
TOKYO -September 23, 2002 Dow Jones is reporting that contrary to yesterdays report Toyota Motor Corp., the world's third-largest carmaker, has no plans at this stage to build a new plant in Poland to make diesel engines, the company said Tuesday.
"We haven't made any such decision," a Toyota spokesman said in response to a Nihon Keizai Shimbun report Sunday. The report said Toyota will build a new plant in Poland to make 2.0- to 2.4-liter diesel engines for its U.K.-made models, starting 2005.
Toyota will make 250,000 diesel engines a year at the new plant, in which the company plans to invest Y15 billion-Y20 billion, the report went on to say.
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun also said in its Saturday morning edition Toyota will sell a U.K.-made sedan in Japan from summer 2003.
The Toyota spokesman refused comment, saying it is company policy not to comment on any product plan before an official announcement.
It would be the first European-made Toyota sold in Japan.
