Microtune RF Technology Deployed in Voice-Enabled Cable Modem Certified for European Market

    PLANO, Texas--Sept. 23, 2002--

ARRIS VoIP cable modem, integrating Microtune's broadband tuner, is first to achieve qualification to the 1.1 version of the Euro-DOCSIS standard

Reinforcing its leadership position as a radio-frequency (RF) supplier to the cable broadband marketplace, Microtune(R), Inc. today announced that an ARRIS VoIP cable modem deploying its transceiver technology earned European Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (Euro-DOCSIS) 1.1 qualification in the recent testing wave performed by tComLabs in Ghent, Belgium. With this latest award, Microtune achieves another 1.1 certification milestone--its RF products enable the two-way communications capability in cable access equipment certified to deliver an enhanced range of services, including high-speed Internet access, telephony, home networking and multimedia, for the European marketplace.
Microtune's MT4907 MicroModule provided the RF front-end components, including the tuner and MicroStreamer(TM) MT1530 upstream amplifier, for the ARRIS Touchstone(TM) Telephony Modem (Model 102B), a packet cable-based embedded multimedia terminal adapter (E-MTA). Microtune previously supplied its RF silicon and systems technology to ARRIS for VoIP cable modems that achieved DOCSIS 1.1 certification, the standard used in the North American market.
"The Touchstone Telephony Modem is the first VoIP cable modem certified to the Euro-DOCSIS 1.1 version of the standard, and we congratulate ARRIS on its recent award from the Euro-DOCSIS Certification Board," explained Douglas J. Bartek, Chairman and CEO of Microtune. "This accomplishment demonstrates how our RF technology continues to meet the discriminating performance and quality metrics of customers, while supporting their success in the certification process across worldwide standards."
Microtune's MT4907 MicroModule is a tuner-receiver that provides the critical RF upstream and downstream receive functionality for two-way, interactive communications. As the RF electronics central to cable modem system operation, it empowers consumers to send and receive video, data and voice services via the high-speed cable connection.
To date, Microtune has provided the RF tuner solution in one or more models for 42 of the 67 companies that have been awarded DOCSIS or Euro-DOCSIS certification, representing more than sixty percent of the certified suppliers.
