DaimlerChrysler Statement on the Passage of a New Light Truck CAFE Provision
WASHINGTON,DC Sept. 19, 2002 -- The following is a statement by Robert Liberatore, Senior Vice President, External Affairs and Public Policy of DaimlerChrysler: "DaimlerChrysler applauds the House and Senate energy bill conferees for reaching a compromise on increased light truck CAFE standards. We continue to work with NHTSA to raise light truck fuel economy standards, and will continue to invest in new fuel-saving technologies, such as fuel cells. If eventually signed into law as part of a package of energy legislation, this CAFE amendment will be an important step in improving the fuel economy of SUVs, pickup trucks and minivans in a way which recognizes the needs of the American consumers who rely on them."
