FRANKFURT -September 18,2002 Dow Jones repeated a Capital Magazine report that BMW AG plans to sell 1.04 million vehicles this year and increase its annual revenues to EUR51.5 million by 2008.
By 2008, BMW chief executive Helmut Panke plans to increase sales in the U.S. and Asia by 58% and in Japan by 49%, Capital says, citing confidential sources.
Increased sales will come from the introduction of new models such as the X3, the 6-series, the 1-series and the new Rolls Royce.
"We won't comment on these specific numbers," BMW spokesman Michael Rebstock said of the article. "We plan to increase revenues by a third in 2008, from the EUR38.5 billion in revenues last year."
He repeated a previous BMW forecast that the carmaker will sell over 1 million vehicles this year, after selling 905,650 in 2001.
Rebstock also said BMW expects vehicles sales of 1.3 million units by 2008.
