New Mazda Demio Doubles First Month Sales Target

Tokyo, Japan, Sept. 18, 2002 - (JCN Newswire) - The recently launched
new Mazda Demio (known as Mazda2 overseas) has generated cumulative
sales orders of approximately 15,000 units since its introduction. As
the second in Mazda's all-new generation of products, this result more
than doubles Mazda Demio first full month (excluding the Obon break
period) target of 7,000 units.

The Casual is proving the most popular, followed by SPORT and Cozy. In
particular, SPORT has generated more orders than originally planned. As
for body colors, customers are especially attracted to Sunlight Silver
for Casual and SPORT, and Honey Yellow for Cozy. Around 30% of Cozy
buyers have chosen the electronically controlled white canvas top
available as an option.

In post-sale feedback, customers have given the following main reasons
for choosing Mazda Demio:
- 'Spacious interior' and 'various user-friendly features,' popular
characteristics from the original Demio;
- Superb dynamic performance achieved by a combination of
maneuverability, quiet operation and ride comfort;
- 'Outstanding design,' including dynamic exterior; and
- 'Interior quality' one rank above competitors in this class.

In particular, maneuverability, sufficient storage space and greater
color variations are popular features.

The Mazda Demio is attracting new customers to Mazda from single men,
single women, and young family groups.

Commenting on this encouraging start, David Thomas, Senior Managing
Executive Officer in charge of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service
said: "Following the overwhelmingly positive start of Mazda
Atenza/Mazda6 in many markets around the world, Mazda Demio's first
month is further evidence that we have got our new products and brand
position just right. We are really excited about the introduction of
Mazda2 overseas, particularly its European premiere at Paris motor show
next week. Our target is now to continue to build our momentum and grow
our business in line with our Millennium Plan objectives."
