SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UTILITY ASSOCIATION
"INFORMATION FAIR" AT IRWINDALE: SEPTEMBER 19
Irwindale, Calif. - - Water is on everyone's mind lately (in fact, there was a front page story on the subject in the local paper just this morning …). Droughts in the west and mid-west, too much water in Europe and in regions of Asia. So it seems some fitting that, on Thursday of this week representatives of municipal, county, and state offices, as well as many private companies will meet on the grounds of Irwindale Speedway to talk about that very subject. They'll be at Irwindale under the auspices of the Southern California Utility Association (SCUA) to get a good look at, and take home some expert information on, many of the latest advancements in the science of that one simple; yet totally vital element of daily life: Water.
Some 80+ vendors will be on hand at the Speedway from 8AM 'til 3PM on September 19 with exhibits, samples, demonstrations, hand-outs, videos, and tons of expertise on the subject of water and it's collection, purity, deliver, (and even what to do with it when the public is through using it …)
This show, while open to any of the general public who want to know more about water, is really aimed at civic officials, local and regional business, and college students who are studying in the hydrology field. Participants from USC, the University of California, as well as from local community colleges Mount Sac and Citrus will get a chance to see all the latest and greatest hardware (pipes, pumps, filtering units, meters …) as well as "play" with samples of the specialized software that controls it all.
Set up as a fund-raiser for the Association, each vendor will pay a fee for the privilege of presenting their wares to the estimated 1,000 highly-motivated and acutely-interested visitors who will be spending many hours at this unique "outdoor trade show".
"This year as last, Irwindale has donated the space for us to use, for which we sincerely thank Bob DeFazio and his staff," said David Fike, a board member of SCUA and the Director of Public Works for neighboring Monrovia. "This will be our second time at Irwindale, and we fully expect to better the attendance record that we set here last year. We've received calls from all over the western states inquiring about this year's show, both from vendors and attendees. Irwindale is easy to get to and it's very easy to set up a great "midway" with plenty of room for huge working displays and plenty of close-in parking for all."
"We're pleased that SCUA and Dave Fike decided to take us up on our offer of 'free rent' again this year," said Track GM, Bob DeFazio. "Events like this are our way of giving back to the community … This a great group of people who work very hard to provide the public with clean, abundant water at fair prices … They're always welcome to use our facility to promote that kind of work."
