Allison Legacy Cars Make Their Final 2002 Appearance at the HMS
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (September 17, 2002) - After four weekends of no racing
at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway, track officials hope that the fifth
weekend will be the charm. The Allison Legacy Series will return for their
third and final 2002 appearance at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway on
Saturday night, September 21st with the Twin 50-lap features on Lowcountry
Concrete Night at the Races. Joining the Legacy Cars in racing action will
be full features for the Legends Cars, Mini Stocks, Coastal Medical
Associates Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and Road Warriors.
The Allison Legacy car is a three-quarter sized replica of a NASCAR Winston
Cup car and is powered by a four-cylinder MAZDA B-2200 truck engine that
produces approximately 125 horsepower. The cars use the standard MAZDA
five-speed transmission. The cars weigh about 1,400 pounds dry but must
weigh a minimum of 1,675 pounds with driver to race. The series is a
"SPEC" series designed to minimize your racing costs and place the emphasis
on the driver instead of the equipment.
The Allison Brothers, sons of former NASCAR competitor Donnie Allison - are
the creators of the Allison Legacy car. Rules and national technical
inspections are strictly enforced to limit alterations to the basic car.
The engines are sealed and can only be rebuilt by Mark Smith/Tri-Star
Motorsports, Winston Cup Engine Builder, where they are resealed before
shipment back to the competitor. Almost all parts are spec and cannot be
modified for competition.
There will also be an Allison Legacy Car Preview and Open Practice for all
divisions on Saturday night, September 20th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Gates will open at 5:00 p.m.
Gates open on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m.
followed by the National Anthem at 7:05 p.m. General admission ticket
prices are $10.00 for adults; $6.00 for Juniors (ages 13-16), Seniors (55
and older) and Military (with proper I.D.); and children under 12 are free.
The Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles south of I-95 (exit 5
in SC) on Highway 17 or just ten miles north of Savannah on Highway 17.

win event for $75.00. There will be an open practice day scheduled for
Thursday, October 3rd from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. for all divisions that
compete at the speedway. This will be a non-points race for the HMS
Legends Cars Track Championship.
- On Friday night, September 27th, Hargray presents the 2nd Annual Beach
Blast Boogie featuring the Headliners from 8:00 p.m. to midnight at the
Hardeeville Motor Speedway. Tickets may be purchased in advance for this
rain or shine event by calling 843-784-2211 or 843-784-HOPE. Advance
prices are $10.00 and tickets at the gate are $15.00. All proceeds benefit
the American Cancer Society.
- Jerame Donley of Winston-Salem, NC leads the field of Allison Legacy Cars
to HMS as he won both 50-lap features at the June 29th. There will be a
special autograph session for the Allison Legacy Car drivers on the track
just before the National Anthem this Saturday night.
- Track Points Update: As the track points titles wind down, there are some
very close battles and some not so close battles remaining.
1. O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models (Remaining Point Races:
September 28 and October 5): Three drivers still have a shot at becoming
the 2002 Late Model champion. Statesboro's Shane Jenkins leads the way and
has the best shot to beat Walter Reardon and Tommy Porter, both from
Savannah, GA. If Jenkins completes one lap in the feature at the final two
point races, he will clinch the title.
2. Legends Cars (Remaining Point Races: September 21, September 28 and
October 12): In the Pro division, Kevin O'Brien from Burton, SC, can clinch
the Pro division championship by starting in each of the final three point
races. Kevin Eves of Guyton, GA will be there to claim the championship
should O'Brien fail to make the races. The Masters division has already
been clinched by Jim Reyburn of Charleston, SC. This is his first track
championship at HMS. The Semi Pro division has the best points battle and
will likely come down to the last lap of the last points feature on October
12th. Jonathan Haidon of Hilton Head, SC holds a slim three point lead
over the current INEX National Points leader Jimmy Lang of Bluffton, SC.
Andrew Smith of Savannah, GA and Billy Tysinger of Hardeeville, SC cannot
be counted out. Ten drivers still have a mathematical chance of winning
the Semi-Pro Track championship.
3. Xtreme Stock Cars ((Remaining Point Races: September 21, September 28,
October 5 and October 12): With four races remaining, Don Dean of Sheldon,
SC looks to dethrone last year's champion Timmy Dasher of Bluffton, SC.
Dean holds a 24 point advantage, but things can change quickly if his luck
runs out. David Taschner of Summerville, SC has an outside chance to win
if things go sour for both Dean and Dasher in the remaining races.
4. Mini Stocks (Remaining Point Races: September 21, September 28, October
5 and October 12): Steven Moore from St. George, SC has won all but two
races this year, but still has not been able to shake David Carr, Jr. from
Martinez, GA. Moore holds a 69 point advantage over Carr, but that is not
enough points for comfort with four point races still on the schedule.
Johnny Brown of Bluffton, SC and Doug Butler of Hardeeville, SC are still
mathematically in the points title chase.
5. Coastal Medical Associates Street Stocks (Remaining Point Races:
September 21 and October 5): With only two point races remaining, five
drivers can clinch the title in the Street Stocks class. Glenn Mappus of
Ridgeville, SC leads James Beckett of Ridgeland, SC by 9 points. Following
closely behind is Scott Russell of Charlotte, NC. Robert Myers and Fred
Alexander, also both from Ridgeville, SC still have a long shot chance for
the title.
