Clean Air Partners Acquires HIS Emissions Reductions Systems; Acquisition to Expand Emission Control Product Offerings

SAN DIEGO--Sept. 16, 2002--Clean Air Partners (CAP), a leader in the development and commercialization of high-tech solutions to reduce engine emissions, has acquired HIS Emissions Reduction Systems, a leading manufacturer of catalytic emissions reductions systems.
Since 1977, HIS has sold its Catalytic Silencer products to various industrial markets throughout the world. These products consist of an integrated catalytic converter and exhaust silencer.
According to Dan Kabel, CEO of CAP, "This acquisition is synergistic with Clean Air Partners' mission of meeting the world's demand for lower emissions and a cleaner environment. The HIS catalytic converter/silencer technology is a perfect fit with our product line of Dual-Fuel(TM), MicroPilot(R), and diesel emission reduction technologies."
HIS Catalytic Silencer products encompass some of the most advanced technology in catalytic converter design. Combining the catalytic converter and exhaust silencer results in an innovative, compact system that reduces emissions and complies with EPA and other air quality district standards. In addition, HIS has the added benefit of reducing noise to comply with OSHA standards.
HIS will become a division of CAP and maintain its Houston facilities. Harold Harris, founder and president of HIS, will serve as technical director of Catalyst Products.
Harris noted, "Both companies have the same goal in mind: emissions reductions. Clean Air Partners will be able to take HIS to the next level by offering customers complementary options to meet a greater range of emissions reduction requirements and challenges."
Clean Air Partners was founded in 1991 to develop technologies that would allow diesel engines to operate with the low emission benefits of natural gas while retaining the power, efficiency, longevity and cost effectiveness of compression ignition engines. Since that time, CAP has broadened its mission to include a wider range of diesel emission technologies and applications. CAP offers time-proven products which are based on its patented proprietary technologies. About 1,300 heavy-duty engines have been upgraded with CAP Dual-Fuel systems. CAP currently has customers in the U.S., Mexico and various European countries. CAP's sub-components are used in low emission vehicles produced by some of the world's largest automotive and truck manufacturers. CAP is currently developing innovative low emission Electric Power Generation products for the distributed generation market.
