Winchester Set to Host Round One of Championship Series
 

            Fayetteville, GA -            After 25 regular season races in the USAR Hooters ProCup Series, the Northern and Southern Division competitors will now begin the chase for the 2002 USAR Hooters ProCup Series National Championship to begin Sunday, September 22 at Winchester Speedway. The race will be the second event for the Series this season at the high-banked facility located in Winchester, Indiana. 

            The Alan Kulwicki Memorial M.R. Enterprises 250 will be the first of four races named for the "Four Champions" who perished in a 1993 plane crash. Mark Brooks, Dan Duncan, Charlie Campbell and Kulwicki are all remembered each year during the season with these special events.

The Northern Division raced at the "World's Fastest Half-Mile" back in May with Brian Ross getting the win. Ross was able to hold off 1998 National Champion Jeff Agnew and the pair were the only cars to finish on the lead lap back in May. 

"We were very fortunate to get the win back in May," said Ross. "The Championship Series will bring in a lot of good cars from the Southern Division so I know it is going to be a lot tougher to get another win at Winchester. We have a good team and we are going to be ready. We have had a great season and we hope to contend for the championship."

The Championship Series will feature a five-race schedule from September 22nd through November 30th.  The driver with the most points will be  declared the 2002 National Champion. The drivers will enter Winchester with points given based on their regular season finish in their respective divisions. Essentially, if Ross can hold on to claim the number one seed from the Northern Division he will join Bobby Gill will an equal number of points heading into the Championship Series.

The drivers will then race for points and how many points they collect during the five-race series will determine their final placement in the point standings.

Another intriguing part of the five-race championship series is the Four Champions Challenge presented by Naturally Fresh Foods. The special program is offered for drivers who can win multiple events during the championship series. The last driver to collect any bonus awards from the program was Hal Goodson, who won two events last season and an additional $10,000 with wins at Myrtle Beach and Concord.

If any eligible driver can win any two of the five races they will collect $10,000. If they are fortunate enough to win three races they will collect $25,000 or by winning any four races an additional bonus of $50,000 will be awarded. If one driver can sweep all five Championship Series races they will receive an additional $100,000 in addition to the National Championship.

The Championship Series will move from Winchester Speedway to Jennerstown Speedway for the Charlie Campbell Memorial Miller Lite 250 on October 5th. The Mark Brooks Memorial Lucas Oil 250 presented by Bryant Heating & Cooling will be held October 19th at Myrtle Beach Speedway followed by the Dan Duncan Memorial Hoplite 250 presented by ANECO on November 2nd at Peach State Speedway. The final race of the season will be the Four Champions Memorial Hooters 300 at USA International Speedway on Saturday, November 30th.
