NORTH CENTRAL DIVISIONS SUMMIT RACING SERIES FINALS WRAP UP AT IRP
INDIANAPOLIS - In the final rounds of the NHRA North Central Division
Summit Racing Series Finals at Indianapolis Raceway Park, champions were
crowned in six racing categories. More than 800 of the best racers from
across the division came to IRP to compete for individual and team honors
in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Super Pro Bike, High School and Jr. Dragster.
Although the team from National Trail Raceway put three vehicles in
the winner's circle, Bunker Hill Dragway ran away with the team
championship. The weekend's event had been dedicated to the memory of
former Bunker Hill Dragway track operator Mary Hullinger so it was an
emotional victory for the team.
National Trail Raceway's winners were Bob Biser in Super Pro, Terry
McGee in Sportsman, and Burt Exman in Super Pro Bike. The Pro winner was
Jack Spivey, representing Edgewater Sports Park. Junior winners were
Justin Hardy in the 13- to 17-year-old class; Jared Stunkel in the 10- to
12-year-old class; and Kim Baker in the 8- and 9-year-old class.
It was a big weekend for the McGee family. Sportsman winner Terry
McGee is married to Friday night's VP Racing Fuels Race of Champions winner
Deanna McGee. This was also the 26th consecutive year that Terry McGee had
qualified to go to the NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals.
The individual winners in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Super Pro
Bike will advance to compete for a national championship against winners
from NHRA's other six divisions at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in
November. They will each receive $3,500 for participating in the Finals
and the national champion in each class will earn an additional $5,000.
The National Dragster Team Spirit Award went to Bunker Hill
Dragway. The team decked out its section of the grandstand in bright
colors and stayed in their seats to cheer their teammates throughout the
three-day event.
