NHRA Sunday: Rain forces postponement of Reading
eliminations
Event: 18th Annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals
Location: Maple Grove Raceway, Reading, Pennsylvania
Date: September 15, 2002
Continuous rain forced the postponement of Sunday's final eliminations at the
Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Reading, Pa. After early showers had delayed the
start of the day's action by almost two hours, a steady rain returned to put
a final halt in the early stages of the first round. In fact, Angelle and the
Mohegan Sun team did not even have a chance to leave their pit area.
Angelle did spend some of the down time signing autographs for the many fans
who were patiently waiting for the showers to end. Angelle also convinced
rival and closest points pursuer Craig Treble to join her.
Racing is scheduled to resume tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m., with Angelle
and the Mohegan Sun Suzuki facing Keith Dennis in the first round.
"I know this area really needed the rain, but it's unfortunate it had to come
today. I was looking forward to racing my Mohegan Sun Suzuki, just as I know
the fans were. They came out early and stayed for most of the day, sitting in
the rain and hoping the weather would clear enough for us to race. We really
appreciate that kind of support. Hopefully a lot of them will be able to
take off work tomorrow and Mother Nature will cooperate so we can put a good
show on for them."
Note: The final eliminations coverage will now be seen on the ESPN2 network
on Tuesday, September 17 from 1:00 - 2:30 a.m.
