DaimlerChrysler To Idle 2 N American Plants For 1 Week
Friday September 13,2002
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. AP reported that DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler unit will shut plants in Canada and Delaware beginning Monday for a week, a spokeswoman said Friday. The shutdowns will idle a combined 4,700 workers at a Brampton, Ontario, plant that builds Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde and Chrysler 300M sedans and a Newark, Del., factory that makes Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicles, spokeswoman Michele Tinson said.
They are the first Chrysler factories since April to close because of reduced demand. The third-biggest U.S. automaker also wants to reduce inventories in anticipation of the arrival of 2003 models, Tinson said.
