Simula Announces Reorganization of Aerospace & Defense Group; Personnel Promotions Also Announced

TEMPE, Ariz.--Sept. 12, 2002--Simula, Inc. (AMEX:SMU) announced today the reorganization of its Aerospace & Defense segment into a new structure with three market-focused business units. These three business units consist of: Aviation Safety Systems, Military Personnel Safety Systems, and Ground Vehicle Safety Systems.
"Today's announcements reflect execution of our strategy for aggressive top line growth and building our position as the preferred supplier of safety systems for the military of the future," said Brad Forst, President & CEO.
Aviation Safety Systems is responsible for crashworthy crew seating, troop seating, aircraft armor, and the Company's Cockpit Airbag Systems (CABS(TM)). Military Personnel Safety Systems is responsible for pilot, crew, and soldier safety equipment such as body armor, parachutes, flotation collars, and other body-worn vest ensembles. The Ground Vehicle Safety Systems is initially responsible for military land vehicle armor, and ultimately for other vehicle safety systems.
The Company said that each new business unit will be managed by a Vice President/General Manager having P&L, marketing, program management, and customer service responsibilities that are aligned to serve a specific set of customers within each market segment. This reorganization represents a major change to the former product line management approach.
The Company also said it is completing the recruitment and hiring for a number of additional sales and marketing positions in the Aerospace & Defense Group and for Simula, Inc.
Personnel promotions resulting from this reorganization include William Rogers to Aerospace & Defense Group President; Donald A. Dutton to VP and General Manager of Aviation Safety Systems; and Dale J. Kennedy to VP and General Manager of Military Personnel Safety Systems. The Company said it is completing recruitment for the Ground Vehicle Safety unit position.
Rogers joined Simula in 1984 and has held a variety of operating and management positions. Prior to joining Simula, Rogers was employed with Hughes Helicopters. Dutton joined the Company in 1994, most recently as Product Development Manager. Prior to his employment at Simula, he was with Orbital Sciences Corp. and Boeing. Kennedy has been with Simula for nine years in a variety of positions. Prior to Simula and his academic training, he served in the United States Air Force for 13 years.
Mick Horton has been promoted to Director of Business and Information Services. This promotion reflects a broadening of Mr. Horton's responsibilities to encompass all business systems within the Company.
The Company's Commercial Group consists primarily of its Automotive Safety business. This business is currently organized as a separate P&L unit. Accordingly, the structure of the Commercial Group remains unchanged.
