SO-CAL SPEED SHOP - HOT ROD SHOW AND DRAGS - SUNDAY SEPT 15

SO-CAL SPEED SHOP PRESENTS
HOT ROD DRAGS & CAR SHOW
SUNDAY, SEPT. 15 AT IRWINDALE
Founder Alex Xydias Named Grand Marshall

Irwindale, Calif. - - So-Cal Speed Shop and hot rods drag racing in Irwindale … Whoa! … Have they finally perfected time travel? Guy! … How utterly seamlessly those above nine words interlock, how perfectly they trip off the tongue, how nuts-on they ring, how categorically they frame an era, Hey! … How cool is this?

No you haven't been caught in a time warp (although you still may not believe that when you get on site at Irwindale on Sunday morning!). You are headed for the first So-Cal Hot Rod Drags and Car Show ever staged at Irwindale's brand new and very "racey" Dragstrip, staged by the legendary So-Cal Speed Shop, one of the nation's oldest and best respected palaces of power. Once there you will be presented with a pre-1974 performance and polish show that will flat take your breath away in a wonderful barrage of bright color and hot competition.

The date is Sunday, September 15 and the event will run from 9AM until 5PM; eight straight hours devoted to the original California hot rod in all its infinite forms and permutations. This deal promises to be a cross between the Oakland Armory show and the 1978 World Finals.

Open to all pre-1974 vehicles, the car show pre-entry entry is $10 ($15 at the gate) and drag racing will only cost $20 more, with all proceeds going to the Veteran's Car Show. You can call the So-Cal Speed people in Pomona for the latest and greatest, most-up-to-date info at (909) 469-6171, but just get your pride and joy pointed toward Irwindale right now and make ready for what will surely be one of the really FUN days for hot rodders of all ages and persuasions.

As an added attraction, the founder of So-Cal Speed Shop, none other than Alex Xydias himself, will be honored as Grand Marshall. He really hates to be referred to as "living history", but he's just that. One of the handful of happy hot rodders who led the way on the dry lakes and airport drag strips at the very inception of the sport right here in California. If you ever had a great time in a roadster, or are still planning on having one, stop by and say "Hey, THANKS, man!" to one of the real guys who "invented" the genre.

Irwindale Speedway and Dragstrip is located right off the 605 freeway in Ir-Win-Dale, California. From the south take the Live Oak West exit around and across the freeway to Speedway Drive. From the north on the 605, take the Arrow Highway west exit, go two lights to Live Oak and make a hard left. Go east about a quarter mile to the Speedway Drive entrance … And … You are among friends!
