Car Navigation for Pocket PC users in 14 European Countries
GENT, Belgium--Sept. 11, 2002--This summer, pocket PC users all over Europe have benefited from the new functionality provided by combining Tele Atlas maps, Palmtop's TomTom Navigator and Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 software. This solution offers turn-by-turn navigation comparable to that of integrated on-board navigation systems. It not only displays the best route on the screen, but also guides through voice instructions. If the user deviates from the suggested route, the software automatically calculates a new route. Outside the car, without the GPS receiver, TomTom Navigator can be used as an electronic map.
Tele Atlas, the worldwide leader in the development of state-of-the-art geographic databases, today offers nine maps for car navigation on pocket PC handheld computers, covering 14 European countries - Benelux, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Alps (Austria and Switzerland), Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway and Sweden), Portugal and Spain.
TomTom Navigator is compatible with most Pocket PC's, including Compaq iPaq, Casio, Hewlett Packard Jornada, O2 XDA Smartphone and Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox. The system is supplied complete with a CD-ROM containing a Tele Atlas country map, a GPS receiver, car mount and cigarette lighter style power adapter for powering the GPS receiver and Pocket PC.
Using breakthrough data compression and de-compression technology, TomTom Navigator stores larger geographical areas per Megabyte of memory than any other navigation system. All maps are available and installable as complete country maps, as well as 16 and 32-Megabyte size areas. This means that Pocket PC users can fully benefit from the detailed, top-quality Tele Atlas maps, in many cases without having to invest in additional memory cards, thus lowering the cost of ownership. TomTom Navigator retails at 429, - Euros and is available from major retailers in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Benelux. Other countries will follow shortly.
