VW Sees 2002 Commercial-Vehicle Sales Down About 4%

HANOVER, Germany -September 11 Dow Jones reported that Volkswagen AG's commercial-vehicles unit, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Wednesday said it expects its vehicle sales and its return on sales to slip in 2002.

VW expects commercial-vehicle sales to fall about 4.0% in 2002, Bernd Wiedemann, head of VW Commercial Vehicles, said at a trade fair. The division sold 275,915 vehicles in 2001.

Wiedemann didn't give firm forecasts for the division's 2002 earnings.

He said its return on sales will be lower than the 2001 return-on-sales level of more than 6.0%. It had a first-half 2002 return on sales of 3.1%.
