HMS World Finals on Friday and Saturday
Legends Cars World Finals starts Friday at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (September 10, 2002) - After almost four weeks of no
racing at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway due to rain and scheduled off
nights, racing action returns on Friday night, September 13th with the
qualifying night for the Legends Cars World Finals. Drivers from around
the United States will attempt to qualify for the World Finals Championship
with time trials, heats and feature events. Gates open on Friday at 4:00
p.m. with time trials starting at 6:00 p.m. Racing will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The World Finals Championship race event paying $5,000.00 to the winner
will be on Saturday night, September 14th. Last chance qualifying features
will also take place on Saturday night. Last year's World Finals winner,
Jonathan Davenport from Blairsville, GA, has committed to return this year
to defend his title. The Road Warriors will also be in action. The
Hardeeville Motor Speedway has Road Warrior cars available to rent or
purchase. Gates open on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Racing will begin at 7:00
p.m.
The ticket prices on Friday and Saturday will be $10.00 for adults and
$6.00 for juniors (13-16), seniors (55 and older) and military with proper
identification. Anyone who presents a paid ticket stub from August 10th or
August 17th will receive $5.00 off of an adult ticket or $3.00 off of a
junior, senior or military ticket. Children 12 years of age and under will
be admitted free.
Entries for the 2nd Annual Legends Cars World Finals have already been
received from INEX National points leader Jimmy Lang from Bluffton, SC,
Kayne Hickman from Hixson, TN, Grant Enfinger from Fairlane, AL and Guyton,
GA's Heywood Barton who flipped his Legends Car at the HMS last event.
Barton vows to be ready for the World Finals weekend.
There will also be open practice on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
for all Legends Cars participants.
The Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles south of I-95 (exit 5
in SC) on Speedway Blvd./Highway 17 or just ten miles north of Savannah on

Qualification Procedures at the Legends Cars World Finals at the
Hardeeville Motor Speedway (Hardeeville, SC)
Thursday, September 12, 2002 - Open Practice and Tech Inspection (10:00
a.m. - 6:00 p.m.)
Friday, September 13, 2002
Time Trials (2 Laps) -qualify by number draw. A competitor will draw a
number after they successfully pass a mandatory pre-race inspection.
Drivers will receive points based on their performance in time trials on
the following scale: 1st=200, 2nd=198, 3rd=196, 4th =194, 5th=192, etc.
with a decrease of two points per position drop.
Heat Races (10 Laps) - total of 10 heats per qualifying night - The heats
will be inverted with the 1st place TT (TT="time trialer") starting 10th in
the 10th Heat Race, the 2nd TT starting 10th in the 9th Heat Race . . .
99th TT starting on the pole of the 2nd Heat Race, and 100th TT starting on
the pole of the 1st Heat Race. Points will be received on the following
scale based on finish in the Heat Race: 1st=100, 2nd=97, 3rd=94, 4th=91,
5th=88, 6th=85, 7th=82, 8th=79, 9th=76, 10th=73.
Feature Races (20 Laps) - total of 5 features per qualifying night - The
Feature Races will be lined up based on the Heat Race finishes. Heat Races
#1 and #2 will comprise the inside and outside row of Feature #1
respectively. Heat Races #3 and #4 will comprise the inside and outside row
of Feature #1 respectively. Drivers will receive points based on their
performance in Feature Race on the following scale: 1st=200, 2nd=198,
3rd=196, 4th =194, 5th=192, etc. with a decrease of two points per position
drop.
Every driver will race in a Heat Race and Feature event on their
Qualification Day.
Tech - All car must comply to the 2002 INEX Rulebook and the track fuel
(Sunoco Purple) must be used.
Qualifying for the World Finals Championship Day on Saturday, September 14:
After Qualification Day, each driver's points will be tallied with the top
20 in points from Friday going directly to the Legends Cars World Finals
Championship race (The #1 driver in points will start on the pole, #2 in
points starts outside pole, etc.).
Point totals #21 through #40 will be placed in the B-Main with the (#21
driver in points starting on the pole, #22 in points starting outside the
pole, etc.).
Point totals #41 through #60 will be placed in the C-Main with the (#41
driver in points starting on the pole, #42 in points starting outside the
pole, etc.).
Point totals #61 through #80 will be placed in the D-Main with the (#61
driver in points starting on the pole, #62 in points starting outside the
pole, etc.).
Point totals #81 - . . . will be placed in the E-Main with the (#81 driver
in points starting on the pole, #82 in points starting outside the pole,
etc.).

E-Main - 24 cars : 15 laps with top 4 transferring to the D-Main.
D-Main - 24 cars (20 locked & 4 from E-Main): 15 laps with top 4
transferring to the C-Main.
C-Main - 24 cars (20 locked & 4 from D-Main): 20 laps with top 4
transferring to the B-Main.
B-Main - 24 cars (20 locked & 4 from C-Main): 25 laps with top 4
transferring to the World Finals Championship
World Finals Championship (A-Main) - (20 cars locked & 4 from B-Main) 50 laps.
