Intermec's Hoffman Honored With Auto Industry Achievement Award
EVERETT, Wash.--Sept. 10, 2002--William Hoffman of Intermec Technologies Corp. has been honored with the Automotive Industry Action Group's (AIAG) Outstanding Achievement Award for his active contributions and leadership on behalf of AIAG and the automotive industry.Hoffman is a principal marketing manager focused on auto supply chain solutions for Intermec.
The award program acknowledges active volunteer participation and leadership in AIAG's various initiatives. This is the third consecutive year that an Intermec AIAG member has received an Outstanding Achievement Award.
Hoffman chairs the AIAG AIDC/RFID Work Group effort that generated one of the world's first RFID (radio frequency identification) item-level tracking and traceability standards, known as B-11. Ratified in February 2002, the B-11 standard sets the framework for automating and collecting new-car tire and wheel data using RFID technology. Because application of RFID increases visibility at the item rather than lot level, car and tire manufacturers and tire retailers will be able to track tires and wheels throughout the supply chain, from production and assembly to distribution and sale. In addition, improved tire and wheel traceability will facilitate more efficient and targeted warranty programs.
"Bill approaches every task or project with an intense enthusiasm and focus," said Intermec Executive Vice President Tom Miller. "His ability to foster cooperation among several individuals and to direct those efforts toward achieving a specific objective has facilitated the progress of AIAG's automotive supply chain initiatives."
Hoffman is based out of Oxford, Mich., and also is a member of the Automatic Identification and Data Collection and the 2Quality Direct Parts Marking committees.
"Bill did an outstanding job of leading a diverse group of about 30 different companies, getting everyone together with the common goal of developing a solution to the challenge facing the industry," said Morris Brown, AIAG program manager. "It certainly was not an easy task, but Bill succeeded in accomplishing it."
