IT’S SMOOTH SAILING AT LAKE ERIE FOR ARCA TRUCKER GUINN

(near) Erie, Pennsylvania (9-6-02) by Wendy Wellman

Chad “Superman” Guinn landed in victory lane again! The winningest
driver in ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series history traded the lead with
Old Milwaukee Pole Award winner Jeff Speakman five times during the
exciting 100-lap feature event on Friday night at Lake Erie Speedway.

Speakman did everything in his power to hold off Guinn’s BFI-Northland
Collision-Coastal Coating Services Ford Ranger. Always a threat on the
track, Speakman led the first 55 laps in the Pennzoil-National Auto Lube
Ford with outside pole qualifier Guinn close on his tail. Guinn finally
overtook him on lap 56, only to relinquish the lead to Speakman the
following lap.

Guinn battled with Speakman, stealing the lead again on lap 63. Speakman
snatched the lead again for laps 64 and 65, but was unable to fend off
Guinn, succumbing one more time on lap 66. Guinn never looked back,
flying around the oval for the remainder of the race to seal his 15th
career win in his three years with the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck
Series.

“We really didn’t have that good of a truck at the beginning of the
race,” said the talented Erie, Michigan driver. “But 30 or 40 laps into
it, it started coming to me. We just tried different lines, working on
entering the corners, getting out of the corners, when to brake, and
when not to.

“I knew Speakman was going to be tough. It was fun, though, I admit it,
running so close.”

Speakman’s teammate and current rookie points leader Brandon Knupp
grabbed third in the Sydney, Ohio-based Mark Knupp Muffler & Tire Ford,
while the John Pierce Plumbing Ford of Darren Jones was fourth. Two-time
series champ Robbin Slaughter pulled off another stellar finish at fifth
in the Screamin’ Eagle Ltd.-GRW Auto Service Ford Ranger.

Bales Motorsports driver Brett Oakley took home sixth in the MAR-FLEX
Products Ford, while veteran racer Joe Wormcastle, of Fort Wayne,
Indiana, stole seventh in the Witwer Construction Chevy. North
Baltimore, Ohio rookie Kevin Reeb was eighth in the Accurate Logistics
Ford, followed by Pete Wormcastle, of New Haven, Indiana, in the
Preferred Painting and Roofing Chevy at ninth.

Past Pro-4 competitor Bill Withers rounded out the top-10 in the
Mannings USA-Hall Electronics-Wachholz Engines Ford. Another Pro-4
veteran, Jack Weethee, snagged the 11th spot, earning Ed & Company Hard
Charger honors after starting at the rear of the 23 truck field when
engine problems forced him to miss qualifying.

The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series is back in action on Sunday in New
York State at the Adirondack International Speedway half-mile. Check out
