NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES QUALIFYING COMPLETE 
AT TRI-STATE RACEWAY
        EARLVILLE, Iowa - In the final rounds of qualifying at the NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series presented by Steel Mart of Dubuque and
Winnebago Industries at Tri-State Raceway nearly all of Friday's No. 1
qualifiers retained their positions through today's action.  In Top Alcohol
Dragster (TAD), Gary Ormsby Jr. continued to lead the eight-car field as
did Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC) pilot Cy Chesterman.
        Ormsby, a Granite Bay, Calif., resident, reset the track's TAD
elapsed time record for the second straight day.  His 5.464-second,
246.37-mph pass was .002 seconds quicker than his previous effort.
        Chesterman, of Sioux City, Iowa, did not improve on yesterday's
numbers, but his 5.819-second pass at 248.07 mph was enough to keep him in
the No. 1 position going into Sunday's eliminations.
        Comp Eliminator driver Mike Lund of Bettendorf, Iowa, was the only
driver to unseat yesterday's best qualifier.  In Super Stock, Lincoln,
Neb., resident Randall Klein remained No. 1 as did Bob Shaw of Sedalia,
Mo., in Stock. 
Racing continues Sunday at Tri-State Raceway.  Gates open at 7 a.m. and
eliminations begin at 8 a.m.  TAD and TAFC will run first round of
eliminations at noon.  Tickets, including pit pass, are $20 for adults, and
