Multimatic Ford Focus Daytona Prototype Chassis, Bodywork Designs Approved

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 6, 2002) -- Daytona Prototype Project Manager Mark Raffauf announced today that the Ford Focus Daytona Prototype chassis and bodywork designs submitted by Multimatic have been approved for construction. The Daytona Prototypes will be the premier class of the Rolex Sports Car Series beginning at the 2003 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

"The addition of the Ford Focus Daytona Prototype to the long list of approved designs is yet another tremendous boost to the program," remarked Raffauf. "Larry Holt and the Multimatic have done a great job of capturing the essence of the Ford Focus in their designs of the Daytona Prototype."

Multimatic has been active in the Rolex Sports Car Series since its inception when it fielded a SportsRacing Prototype II entry in the series' first race - the 2000 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Multimatic went on to capture a podium finish at Mid-Ohio in 2001 and fell just shy of the victory later the same year at Trois-Rivières. The company has also had extensive success the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series with its Mustangs.

Grand American Road Racing Association President Roger Edmondson heralded the involvement by Ford in the Daytona Prototype program as the ideal factory support. "Their involvement in the program will provide teams with the technology and resources made available for Ford Racing," he noted.

Multimatic joins Riley & Scott on the approved chassis list. Riley & Scott had its chassis designs approved two weeks ago, and an announcement regarding the approval of the Indianapolis-based constructor's bodywork is expected in the near future.

Currently, nine constructors have approved chassis designs: Multimatic, Riley & Scott, Crawford Race Cars, Doran Enterprises, Fundamental Technologies, Carbir Race Cars, Quaife Engineering, Picchio SpA and FABCAR Engineering. Bodywork designs have been approved from Multimatic, Doran Race Cars, Fundamental Technologies, Carbir Race Cars, Crawford Race Cars, Picchio SpA and FABCAR Engineering.
