Urgent Assistance with GM issue
Dear Whomever this may concern,
I am a Albany, NY resident and have a possible News Story for you. This
story involves GM (General Motors Corporation) and their use of the
Extended Life Engine Coolant, Dex-Cool (Texaco/Havoline). Last
September, WRGB Ch6 News here in Albany covered my story with anchorman,
Jack Aernecke. The issue is, owners of 1996 - newer, GM Jimmy, Blazer,
Bravada, etc., are encountering crystallization or sludging of their
engine coolant within the cooling system and a very costly repair. I had
this problem in May 2001 on my 1996 Chevrolet Blazer and had to have the
radiator, heater core, water pump, thermostat and serpentine belt
replaced along with having the engine block coolant passages acid flushed
to remove the sludge. The certified GM dealer then refilled with the
traditional Green coolant, which may I add is contradictory of GM's fix
for the condition. July of this year the sludge has returned again. GM
would offer no assistance with the repair, even though the coolant is
stated to last 5years / 100,000 miles. I created a web page
http://www.geocities.com/b_gillie/dexcool_problems.html and have had an
overwhelming response for many irate owners from across the US and
Canada. General Motors is blaming the condition on low coolant levels
and an inferior radiator cap. Many of the owners I have conferred with,
state they have had their vehicle routinely serviced at a GM dealer, who
would check all fluid levels, but GM is still blaming the owner. With my
web page I have compiled a list of all owners I have contacted along with
make, model, year and VIN# of that vehicle involved. GM issued (3) three
TSB's (technical service bulletin) but still will not admit any
wrongdoing. This problem is known to have left owners stranded along
roadways with children. I fear GM is waiting till someone is hurt or
killed before they confront this ever growing issue. Two (2) undisclosed
law firms are investigating for a possible Class Action Lawsuit. If you
look on many search engines, forums,
http://www.bigclassaction.com/automotive and http://www.nhtsa.com you
will see the amount of people out there dealing with this. What I am
hoping to do is spread the word to unaware owners out there who may not
have access to the Internet for this information. Hopefully you will be
able to help with this ever growing problem or point me in the direction
of someone who might be able too.
Please let me know if there is any more information you may need. Any
help is greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Mr and Mrs. Brian Gillie
