EMPI PRESENTS: hotVWs DRAG DAY AT IRWINDALE

Irwindale, Calif. - - The Legend Continues in deed! They'll be coming back to Irwindale Dragstrip in droves, Volksies of every age, method of motivation, persuasion, color, creed, style, type, denomination, state of grace, use, and kind. All driven in by their equally interesting and colorful owners.

On Sunday, September 8 hotVWs Magazine along with EMPI, Gene Berg Enterprises, and Kymco will convene yet another of its wonderfully-entertaining Drag Days at Irwindale, and the world of the Beetle has been buzzing with excitement and anticipation.

"Our first adventure here at Irwindale, in the early Spring, was a real sleeper," said veteran Volks organizer Rich Kimball. "We only had a few fliers out and I thought just a handful of people knew about it … We thought that it would be OK to start small but the old "jungle telegraph" got the word out to the faithful and we had a great first show."

Kimball's second effort at Irwindale already seems well on its way to even greater success and notoriety than his first … "AutoWeek TV will be there to film this event for their Speedvision show … They're very excited about capturing all the flavors of this event on video tape … I don't think that they'll be disappointed by what they see here."

This event is reminiscent of the fabled "Bug-Ins" that took place at (?) Orange County International Raceway (?) in the 60's and 70's. Part drag race, part swap meet, part car show, and ALL Volkswagen wunderkind (of all ages) just having a grand old ball at Irwindale.

The Volkswagen Beetle was (and still is) the most ubiquitous automobile ever built. Everyone: rich, poor, or in the great middle class could drive one without any peer fear … And fans of the fabled marque will see every possible permutation named VW at Irwindale Dragstrip on Sunday next.

Gates open on September 8 at 8AM, and the prices are "stuck in the 60's too): Adults are only $10, Kids $5, and the under 6 set is free and it's $15 to drag race any Volkswagen or Volkswagen-powered street-legal machine.

Hey, there's no charge whatsoever for parking (What?!!!), and the ten bucks admission money even covers a swap space for those with some super-neat VW goodies that they can (possibly) be talked into parting with for the right amount of cash (or trading for THAT cool … whatever) .

Fans should wear layered clothing, their coolest old Bug-In T-shirt or halter top, comfortable shoes or tire tread sandals, a proper hat, slather on the sunblock where skin and sky meet, and bring something with handles or wheels to haul their treasures away in … Parking is close-in, but sunroof kits and knuckle-to-knuckle link pin front suspensions are heavy. Thus prepared … Alll are invited to: As they say in all the better eating establishments: "Enjoy!"

The drags are for muffled, street legal cars which will need to pass an NHRA-style pre-race safety check … There'll be trophy brackets and the very special EMPI Der Renn Kafer Cup will go to the fastest Bug of them all.

Sunday's hotVWs Drag Day should be another one of those vaunted, "You HAD to have been there!" events, combining the very best of the old and the new into something that feels just wonderful to be a part of. It's the way that everyone "remembers" the good old days … Whether they were there or not.

The Legend Continues, as strong and vibrant as ever … Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! at Irwindale Dragstrip.
