GM North America Operations Achieve Quality Milestone

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. announced today that GM North America Product Development, GM Vehicle Operations, and GM Vehicle Manufacturing have been ISO 9001 certified by Det Norske Veritas Inc. (DNV).

"This is an important milestone in our continuing quest for superior product quality and customer enthusiasm," said Jim Queen, vice president of GM North America Engineering. "I congratulate all who were involved in this accomplishment."

"As evidenced by this recommendation and by our recent wins in the J. D. Power Initial Quality Study, our quality efforts are paying big dividends," said Kent Sears, vice president of GM North America Quality. "Our continued focus on our business processes and product quality at all levels of GM will ensure that we strengthen our position as an industry leader."

The ISO registration audits were conducted at GM's Pontiac, Warren and Troy locations by Det Norske Veritas, GM's ISO 9001 registrar. This initiative encompassed about 24,000 GM employees, making it one of the largest registrations worldwide. GM North America's assembly plants are ISO 9001 certified and its Metal Fabricating and Powertrain operations are QS-9000 certified.
