Iteris Subsidiary Awarded San Fernando Valley North-South Transit Corridor Study

ANAHEIM, Calif.--Sept. 5, 2002--Iteris Inc., a subsidiary of Odetics Inc. today announced that its subsidiary Meyer, Mohaddes Associates (MMA) has been awarded a contract by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) for the San Fernando Valley North-South Transit Corridor Study.
MMA will lead a multi-disciplinary team in preparing a Major Investment Study (MIS), which will assess all major north-south corridors and identify the preferred alternative for the transit corridor. The contract is valued at $997,000. The subsequent phase (environmental clearance) of the project is expected to total another $1 million.
"We are pleased to have been awarded this project. Results of this project have the opportunity to be applied elsewhere in L.A. County and possibly in other parts of the country as well," said Abbas Mohaddes, president and CEO of MMA and Iteris senior vice president of transportation system.
"The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects offer a cost-effective solution to the traveling public with many attributes of Light Rail Transit. Iteris is leveraging its application of technology in transportation combined with planning and traffic operation to provide an efficient solution for BRT projects."
"This is an exciting project for the MTA, as we look to expanding enhanced Rapid Bus service in the San Fernando Valley," said Kevin Michel, MTA project manager. "Members of the MMA Team have successfully completed other transit projects for MTA, and I look forward to working with them on this project."
The California legislature has earmarked $100 million to build a north-south corridor bus transit project that interfaces with the...East-West Burbank Chandler corridor project and with the Ventura Boulevard Rapid Bus Project.
As part of the MIS, MMA will lead a major public participation program to involve the community in the evaluation of the alternatives. The study will also include urban design and streetscape improvements, as well and transit priority through intersections.
