BMW Group Reports Strong Year-to-Date Sales
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Sept. 4 -- The BMW Group (BMW and MINI brands combined) recorded remarkable sales increases this month, reporting the strongest first eight months ever in the U.S. with 168,745 vehicles, a 16 percent increase over the same period a year ago, when the Group reported sales of 145,357. The BMW Group also recorded August of 22,315 vehicles, up 17 percent over the 19,054 reported a year ago.BMW Brand
BMW of North America, LLC reported year-to-date sales of 155,951 automobiles and Sports Activity Vehicles, up 7.3 percent over the 145,357 vehicles sold through August of 2001. The company also reported August sales of 19,126, up 0.4 percent over the 19,054 in the same month in 2001.
BMW Automobile Sales
Year-to-date, automobile sales are up 6 percent. BMW reported sales of 127,316 compared to the 119,956 cars sold through August 2001. BMW also reported August automobile sales of 15,499, down 0.1 percent from the 15,518 cars sold in the same month a year ago.
BMW Sports Activity Vehicle Sales
BMW also reported August sales of 3,627 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles, an increase of 3 percent over the 3,536 vehicles reported last year. Year-to- date, SAV sales were up 12.7 percent, to 28,635 vehicles compared to the 25,401 reported last year.
BMW Certified Pre-owned Vehicles Sales
Sales of BMW's Certified Pre-owned vehicles continued at an impressive pace with a 54 percent increase in year-to-date sales of 40,341 compared to 26,176 a year ago. August sales were up 53 percent, with 5,718 vehicles sold compared to 3,734 a year ago.

MINI Automobiles
The company reported sales of 1,441 MINI Coopers and 1,748 MINI Cooper S' in August for a total of 3,189 cars sold. Year-to-date, the company reported sales of 7,819 MINI Coopers and 4,975 MINI Cooper S' for combined sales of 12,794. The MINI brand has been on sale in the U.S. since March 22.
