American Honda Shatters All-Time Sales Records
TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 4 -- American Honda recorded its best sales month ever and shattered a host of other all-time sales records in the process, according to figures released today by American Honda Motor, Co., Inc.Total American Honda August sales of 137,273 were up 12.9 percent from last year and broke the previous monthly record of 117,768 set in August 2000.
Other all-time sales records include:
- Total American Honda car sales of 95,868, up 3.4 percent from last year and breaking the previous record of 91,587 set in August 1997;
- Total American Honda truck sales of 41,405, up 43.2 percent from last year and breaking the previous record of 36,178 set in June 2002;
- Acura Division sales of 16,333, up from last August's total of 15,743 and breaking the previous record of 16,229 set in May 2002;
- Honda Division sales of 120,940, up 14.9 percent from last year and breaking the previous record of 105,037 set in August 2000;
- Accord sales of 48,269, up 21.7 percent from last year and breaking the previous record of 44,894 set in March 1991;
- CR-V sales of 15,197, up 36.1 percent from last year and breaking the previous record of 14,596 set in July 2002.
"Consumers were driven to dealerships in August by a combination of model year closeouts, low interest rates and other industry incentives," said Dick Colliver American Honda executive vice president. "With the all-new 2003 Accords going on sale Sept. 9, Honda dealers were particularly aggressive in selling off '02 Accords. Couple that with the continued strong demand for light trucks including the CR-V, Odyssey, Pilot and Acura MDX and you have the ingredients for an all-time record sales month."
Year-to-date American Honda sales of 844,518 are running 2.2 percent ahead of last year's record setting pace.
