MEDIA ADVISORY: Ballard Powering the Streets of California as Part of the The California Coast 2002-CaCFP Road Rally

WHAT:       Ballard's leading fuel cell technology will be at the
            heart of four zero-emission cars driving in "The
            California Coast 2002 - California Fuel Cell Partnership
            (CaFCP) Road Rally". DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Honda and
            Nissan fuel cell vehicles will all be Powered by
            Ballard(R).

            Between September 4-6, these advanced prototype vehicles
            will demonstrate the capabilities and technology of fuel
            cell mobility on a 3-day, 300-mile road rally from
            Monterey, along the Pacific Coast Highway through scenic
            Big Sur, continuing into San Luis Obispo and then to Santa
            Barbara.

WHO:        Paul Lancaster - Vice President, Ballard Power Systems and
            former Steering Team Member of the California Fuel Cell
            Partnership.

            Mr. Lancaster will provide opening remarks at the "Rally
            Starting Line Ceremony" of fuel cell vehicles at
            Fisherman's Wharf - Custom House Plaza, Monterey.

            Following the ceremony and throughout the 3-day trip, Mr.
            Lancaster and Ballard staff will be available to meet with
            the press and general public as you appreciate the
            vehicles of tomorrow.

WHERE/WHEN: Begins in Monterey, September 4, continues to San Luis
            Obispo, September 5 and concludes in Santa Barbara,
            September 6, 2002.
