Japan Today: Users of broadband Internet access services top 5 mil

September 3, 2002 TOKYO — The number of subscribers to broadband Internet access services totaled 5,405,102 in Japan at the end of July, up from 4,995,526 a month earlier, the telecommunications ministry said Monday.

The total included 3,610,199 users of digital subscriber line (DSL) services, which offer high-speed Internet access via regular telephone lines. (Kyodo News)
