Exide Technologies Introduces New Battery Tester
PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 29 Exide Technologies, a global leader in stored electrical energy solutions, is introducing the EBT-155 Plus, a new affordable, easy-to-use hand-held device that diagnoses the state of health of 12-volt automotive batteries and automotive charging systems. Exide developed the system in partnership with Midtronics, the world's leading battery management innovations company.
The EBT-155 Plus, which incorporates Midtronics' innovative, patented conductance technology, is a lightweight, portable device that generates battery test results in seconds instead of the hours required by traditional cabinet-style battery testers. At the push of a button, it diagnoses the state of any battery up to 900 amps (EN/SAE). Utilizing an LCD display with the universal green-yellow-red color-code system, it clearly shows when a battery is nearly at the end of its life. Unlike traditional testers, it does not require the battery to be fully drained and fully charged to provide an accurate diagnosis. It even can be used on discharged batteries without the need for recharging before testing. In addition, it can be used to check a vehicle's charging and starter system.
Exide developed the EBT-155 Plus as a diagnostic and selling tool for service stations, garages and workshops, allowing them to provide a higher level of customer service and satisfaction. For an affordable price, it provides these outlets with the same leading-edge technology used by large service chains and retailers around the world.
"Because the device can so quickly and easily diagnose an automotive battery's state of charge, it allows our customers to increase battery sales and customer service by maintaining control of their customers' batteries and electrical systems," said David Enstone, President of the Exide Technologies Transportation Business Unit. "For motorists, it prevents a distressed or unplanned purchase of a new battery."
The EBT-155 Plus incorporates conductance technology, which eliminates the risk of heat or sparks and protects on board computers in the vehicle. The leads that attach the tester to the battery are fitted with quick-connecting dual conductor Kelvin clamps. Weighing in at merely 555 grams/1.2 lbs., the tester measures a slim190mm/7.5 inches by 90mm/3.5 inches by 38mm/1.5 inches. The device is housed in a robust case made from acid-resistant ABS plastic, and is backed by a two-year warranty.
