Hardeeville Motor Speedway National Open on Friday & Saturday

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (August 14, 2002) - There will be racing at the
Hardeeville Motor Speedway on both Friday and Saturday nights, August 30th
and August 31st with the 3rd Annual HMS National Open Championship weekend.
 Friday night will feature practice, time trials and heat racing for all
divisions as drivers attempt to qualify for the championship weekend races.
 Gates open on Friday at 4:00 p.m. with time trials starting at 6:30p p.m.
Heats will begin at 7:30 p.m.  Everyone 12 years of age and older will be
admitted for $5.00 with children under 12 admitted for free.  

The action continues on Saturday night with five big championship events.
The first will be the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models 150 lap
event paying $2,500 to the winner.  Previous winners of this event are
Tommy Porter from Savannah, Ga. (2000) and Chris Beach from Hardeeville, SC
(2001).  Other top contenders for the race include Statesboro's Shane
Jenkins who is currently leading the points for the HMS track championship
and Walter Reardon of Savannah, Ga. who is currently second to Jenkins in
points.  Also fans will see 50 lap main events for the Legends Cars, Xtreme
Stocks, Coastal Medical Associates Street Stocks and the Mini Stocks.  The
Road Warriors will also be in action.  The Hardeeville Motor Speedway has
Road Warrior cars available to rent or purchase.
 
The ticket prices on Saturday will be $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for
juniors (13-16), seniors (55 and older) and military with proper
identification.  Anyone who presents a paid ticket stub from August 10th,
August 17th or August 30th will receive $5.00 off of an adult ticket or
$3.00 off of a junior, senior or military ticket.  Children 12 years of age
and under will be admitted free.

Gates open on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., followed by the National Anthem at
7:00 p.m.  Racing begins with the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late
Models after the National Anthem.  The Hardeeville Motor Speedway is
located three miles south of I-95 (exit 5 in SC) on Speedway Blvd./Highway
17 or just ten miles north of Savannah on Speedway Blvd./Highway 17.  For
