Brumos Porsche Announces Driver Lineup for 2003 Rolex 24 at Daytona

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 28, 2002) -- Brumos Porsche turns it up a notch with the announcement of their two-car driver lineup for the 2003 Rolex 24 at Daytona. In Car 59, Lead Driver and five-time 24 Hours of Daytona winner Hurley Haywood heads a strong driver team including J.C. France, Scott Goodyear and Scott Sharp. Car 58, with Lead Driver David Donahue, features a competitive team consisting of Mike Borkowski, Wayne Jackson and Chris Bye.

"I'm excited about finalizing such an accomplished driver line-up. Brumos has all the right pieces of the puzzle and can now focus on the task at hand - pursuing its 7th victory at the 24 hours of Daytona," states Bob Snodgrass, President & CEO of Brumos Motor Cars, Inc.

Arguably one of the most celebrated sports car drivers in history, Hurley Haywood's credentials speak for themselves; 5 time Daytona 24 hour winner, 3 time 24 hours of Le Mans winner and 2 time winner of the 12 hours of Sebring. Haywood's protégé, J.C. France, is an enthusiastic and experienced young driver, and with current IRL standout Scott Sharp and former IRL/CART star Scott Goodyear rounding out the foursome, Car 59's sights are set squarely on the podium.

"Obviously Daytona has been good to me," says Haywood, "and I'd like nothing more than to make another run at the podium in 2003. With the two Scotts and J.C. on-board, testing can't take place soon enough, as far as I'm concerned."

"The right opportunity to run at Daytona is an exciting thing for me," adds Sharp, IRL co-champion and driver on winning team at Rolex 24 Hours in 1996. "I've run and won there before and it was amazing. Being part of the Brumos effort, for the 2003 24 hours at Daytona, with Scott, Hurley and J.C., is another great fit for me and I'm looking forward to getting in the car."

"I have to say, this is an exciting driver lineup to be a part of," says Goodyear, second place finisher at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1992 and now in his first season as an expert IRL analyst for ABC. "And with the quality of a Brumos effort behind us, I'm excited to see what we can do. The credentials are there, that's for sure."

Car 58 is also primed to make its presence known at Daytona, headed by one of racings most versatile drivers, David Donahue, the 1998 24 hour Le Mans winner in a GT2 Dodge Viper. David saw himself at the top of the podium 5 times in 1999 with Team Oreca. Donahue was also invited to drive for Porsche in the Pirelli Supercup races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2001.

Joining Donahue in Car 58 is Mike Borkowski. Borkowski's highlights include several top-five Rolex 24 finishes, Pro Sports 2000 and Pro Formula 2000 titles and the 1997 Trans Am Rookie of the Year award.

Rounding out Car 58 are Wayne Jackson and Chris Bye. Jackson, a longtime sports car racer, continues his ascent up the racing ladder - taking the fastest lap in the GTS class at the Daytona 24 hour last year. Chris Bye, younger brother of long time Porsche driver Rick Bye, brings over 20 years of racing experience to the table. Bye co-drove to 3 consecutive Canadian Firestone/Firehawk championships with Porsche in the early 90's, including a win at the 24 hours of Mosport.

When Brumos and Porsche were looking for a manufacturer to partner with to build their Daytona Prototypes the decision was an easy one; FABCAR. The Porsche FABCAR Daytona Prototypes are currently being constructed at Dave Klym's Indianapolis FABCAR shop. The two cars will begin testing in early November. In the pits, Jim Ballie will lead the Brumos technical crew. Among his many vast accomplishments, Ballie wears the Indy Chief Mechanic's ring from his duties with A.J. Foyt's Indy Racing team.
