Vortec Power Team Captures First And Second Places

PONTIAC, Mich. - The Vortec Power Team captured two first and two second-place finishes in high-speed boats powered by the Vortec HP3 8100 V8 engine at the sixth race of the season for the 2002 American Power Boat Association Offshore Race Series August 23-25 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

During the race weekend, the nine teams that comprise the Vortec Power Team competed in their respective race divisions in the Allen Samuels Chevrolet Powerboat Shoot-Out.

Team Vortec Extreme, racing a Vortec-powered Extreme Vee Bottom powerboat, captured first place and 161 points in the Super Vee Light Single class with an average speed of 57.72 mph and a time of 38.24 for seven laps.

"The engine was fantastic," said Gary Deciucies, driver for Team Vortec Extreme. "We had great power the whole way."

High Noon Racing completed six laps in the Super Vee Light Single Class and finished second with 150 points in an Activator Vortec-powered powerboat with an average speed of 60.36 mph and time of 25.57.

In the Super Vee Light Twin class, UTZ Quality Foods/Castaway captured first place and earned 162 points in a Vortec-powered powerboat with an average speed of 83.50 mph for 12 laps and an elapsed time of 46:01. Team Pier 57 finished second in a Vortec-powered Fountain Vee Bottom powerboat with an average speed of 83.46 mph and time of 46:02. Team Pier 57 earned 151 points.

The seventh race in the 2002 APBA Offshore Race Series, which consists of eight offshore races at various venues, is Oct. 18-20 at the National Championship in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Competitors in 10 race classes will continue to vie for points leading to the National and the World Championship Nov. 18-24 in Key West, Fla.
