SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO PARTNERS WITH KENWOOD USA TO
SPONSOR SECOND NASCAR WINSTON CUP TEAM
Ted Musgrave to pilot No. 07 Kenwood/Sirius Dodge for the second time this season at this weekend's Mountain Dew Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway
DARLINGTON, S.C., August 28, 2002 - Sirius Satellite Radio , the country's premier satellite radio broadcaster, has joined forces with long time partner, Kenwood USA Corporation, to field a second NASCAR Winston Cup (NWC) team. The No. 07 Kenwood/Sirius Dodge Intrepid R/T, driven by NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) driver Ted Musgrave, will compete for the second time this season at the Mountain Dew Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, site of one of his two NCTS victories this season.
"We're pleased to be partnering with Kenwood," said Joseph P. Clayton, President and CEO of Sirius. "Kenwood is a leader in their industry and one of our key hardware partners. Sponsoring a second NASCAR team with Kenwood is a perfect fit for Sirius as we continue to bring our 100 percent commercial free music and outstanding entertainment programming to race fans and consumers across the country."
Joining current Sirius Racing teammate Casey Atwood, driver of the No. 7 Sirius Satellite Radio Dodge Intrepid R/T, Musgrave will take the No. 07 Kenwood/Sirius team, with its innovative chrome paint scheme, to five of the country's most popular NASCAR Winston Cup races this season. Earlier this month, Musgrave debuted the No. 07 Kenwood/Sirius Dodge at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where he finished 21st in the Brickyard 400.
"Kenwood is once again proud to partner with Sirius in this NASCAR sponsorship," said Bob Law, vice president of sales and marketing for Kenwood USA Corporation. "Not only is NASCAR one of the most exciting and fastest growing sports in the United States, but its fans are loyal supporters of brands that sponsor their favorite drivers. With the veteran experience of Ultra Motorsports and Dodge Motorsports, and a proven driver like Ted Musgrave, we have a winning combination in place."
Musgrave returns to the Winston Cup circuit in the midst of a tight points race on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Musgrave, driver of the No. 1 Mopar Performance Parts Dodge Ram, currently sits third in the points standings, just 61 points out of first place, after taking third two weeks ago at the Federated Auto Parts 200 at the Nashville Superspeedway. In his first full season in the Craftsman Truck series, Musgrave earned seven wins, 13 top fives and 18 top 10s in 24 races, placing him as runner-up in the 2001 championship points standings in his first season in the No. 1 Mopar Performance Parts Dodge of Ultra Motorsports.
"This is without a doubt a tremendous opportunity for me and I'm anxiously looking forward to racing the No. 07 Kenwood/Sirius Dodge Intrepid R/T car in Darlington," commented Musgrave. "The addition of the Kenwood name to the Sirius team guarantees even more excitement as we finish out the 2002 season."
