Crawford Takes Daytona Prototype to Wind Tunnel

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 27, 2002) -- Crawford Race Cars took the next step in the development of its Crawford DP03 last week with wind tunnel testing for the race car, which will contest the Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototypes class in 2003. The Denver, N.C.-based constructor performed the testing with a 40 percent model at the Automotive Research Center in Mooresville, N.C., last Tuesday.

"It was a chance to analyze the aerodynamics of the car," explained Andy Scriven, Crawford's chief designer. "Our main test was to get the car balanced so it's a safe car to drive. We wanted to evaluate the downforce on the front and rear of the car to balance it out, giving it a safer feeling for the driver."

While development and testing is ongoing for the DP03, Crawford reports it plans on having the first race car ready to compete at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, February 1-2, 2003.
