CASCAR Western Series set for Edmonton return
Apollo Motorsports presents the EMCO 200 at Edmonton Int'l Raceway

EDMONTON, AB - CASCAR will make its return to Kevin Dowler's hometown on
September 7 when the CASCAR Western Series visits Edmonton International
Raceway for the EMCO 200. The quarter-mile speedway is the only paved oval
in the Edmonton area, and is located just south of the provincial capital,
in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
Dowler, who resides in Sherwood Park, is one of CASCAR's staunchest
supporters and has found himself in the role of 'promoter' for this, the
10th event of the CASCAR Western Series season. And in addition to being
the driving force behind the creation and success of the EMCO 200, the
CASCAR Super Series regular is preparing four Fords for action in the
200-lap event.
Wade Lee, one of the front-runners in the Western Series, will pilot his
regular Ford Dealers of Western Canada Taurus in the race. He will be
joined by Dowler, in a Ford Quality Care Taurus. Trevor Seibert, who has
raced for Dowler's Apollo Motorsports team in select events in the past,
will return to action for the Sept. 7 race, in an EMCO Ford, while Derek
Polack will drive a Comp Shop Taurus in his first CASCAR Western Series outing.
Dowler is enthused about racing in his hometown again. The last time the
Super Series raced there was at the City Centre Airport, in 2000. "There is
such a strong racing history in this city that we are excited to be able to
come home and put on - and participate in - a big event like this. When the
race at Saskatoon didn't happen [on Aug. 17] - and knowing that there was a
chance to make something special happen in Edmonton - we decided to see
what we could do. This is a big undertaking, but we're getting a lot of
support to make this thing as successful as possible, given the short
promotional timeframe we're dealing with."
To further flavour the event, Dowler is hoping to entice some of his
fellow Super Series regulars to come out for the race. CASCAR's premier
series is currently in a holding pattern, waiting for its 12th and final
race of the season to take place, at the end of September. "We've been in
contact with several drivers from the East who are interested in taking
part in this event during the break in the Super Series schedule."
Loretta Thiering, one of the owners of Edmonton Int'l Raceway, is looking
forward to seeing CASCAR Late Models return to her track. "It's been five
years since they've been here and there is a lot of excitement about them
coming back to Wetaskiwin. We're doing everything we can to work with Kevin
to ensure that the EMCO 200 is going to be a major event, in spite of the
limited lead-time we're dealing with. Things are coming together very nicely."
A press conference announcing further details of this event is scheduled
for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4 at EMCO's Edmonton branch. Those
wishing to attend should contact Debbie [at EMCO] at (780) 454-9551.
The EMCO 200 race card will also feature: the King of the Claimers, K-Rock
Thunder Cars and the IMCA Modifieds. Those looking for more information
about the EMCO 200 should contact Kevin Dowler at (780) 462-9572. Loretta
Thiering of Edmonton Int'l Raceway can be reached at the track's hotline at
(780) 467-9276. Their website address is www.edmontonraceway.com.
