USAC RELEASE: FORD FOCUS MIDGETS RETURN TO IRWINDALE

WISE, HANSEN SHARE SANTA MARIA PODIUM 
"REGIONAL" MIDGETS AT STOCKTON, FORD FOCUSES AT IRWINDALE 
Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. and Garrett Hansen of Redondo Beach, Calif. 
shared the victory podium in USAC Western racing at the Santa Maria, Calif. 
Speedway Saturday night. Wise won the 30-lap Western Midget Car feature, 
while Hansen claimed the 20-lap Ford Focus Midget Car main event. 
The Ford Focus Midget Car Series continues this Saturday night with a 
20-lap feature on tap at the 1/3-mile paved Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway, 
while the Western Regional Midget Car Series concludes Saturday night at the 
Stockton 99 (Calif.) Speedway, with a 30-lapper scheduled on the 1/4-mile 
pavement. Marc DeBeaumont, who won the 1999 USAC Western Midget Car title, 
leads Floyd Alvis by 14 points going into the series finale. 
Wise passed Jerome Rodela on the 17th lap of the Midget Car feature and led 
the final 14 laps in Dino Tomassi's Mopar Parts/Finish Line Towing 
Mopar/Beast. Bobby Boone, Danny Stratton, Jimmy Christian and Robby Flock 
rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag. 
Flock's finish vaulted him past the idle Shane Scully into the lead in the 
Western Midget Car standings going into a September 14 race at Bakersfield, 
Calif. The originally-scheduled September 7 race at Visalia, Calif. has been 
removed from the 2002 schedule. Scully remains at home recuperating from 
injuries suffered in an August 2 accident at Belleville, Kans. 
Wise was also the fastest qualifier for Saturday night's Midget Car race at 
Santa Maria. 
Garrett Hansen's third USAC Ford Focus Midget Car victory in four races 
came at Santa Maria as he passed series point leader Todd Hunsaker on the 
third lap and led the rest of the way. Trailing him in the 20-lapper were 
fast qualifier Dallen McKenney, Phil Goodwine, Hunsaker and J.J. Ercse. 
Hunsaker's Ford Focus point lead over Goodwine stands at 57 points with 72 
available in this Saturday night's program at Irwindale.
