USA International Prepares for Hooters ProCup Series
Fayetteville, GA - The USAR Hooters ProCup Series has entered the final stretch of the regular season, which means it is time to visit USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida. The Miller Lite 250 presented by Discount Auto Parts will be the third race of four for the Series held at the track this season.
The ¾-mile facility located in central Florida has hosted more Hooters ProCup Series races than any other track on the schedule and is the "home track" for the Southern Division competitors. One driver who might want to call it his home track is Jason Sarvis.
The Myrtle Beach, SC driver has enjoyed a very successful run at the largest track on the circuit. Sarvis, who drives the Naturally Fresh Dressings & Dips/Black's Tire Service Chevrolet has started both races this season from the Buffalo Nickel Pole position and collected his first career win in the Series in June at USA International.
"We were very happy to get the win in Lakeland a couple of months ago," said Sarvis. "Actually we had a car capable of winning both races there this year but we had a fuel pickup problem that kept us from having a chance to win in February. Hopefully, we have all those gremlins figured out because the car is very good at that track."
So good, in fact, that the team hasn't touched the car since winning in June and plans on only running the car at USA International Speedway and possibly a few Four Champions Championship Series events later this year.
"The shocks, springs, everything is still on the car. We will work on it to fine tune it but this car has been fast for the past several races at Lakeland and we hope to continue our string of good runs there in a couple of weeks."
Sarvis has collected the top spot in qualifying three out of the past four races but only one win since the middle of last season when he began driving for the Ricky Benton-owned team.
"I am fortunate enough to have a great car owner in Ricky Benton and sponsors like Naturally Fresh," Sarvis added. "We feel our car is real good at USA International Speedway and hopefully we can defend our win there."
While Sarvis has reason to be excited returning to USA International Speedway one driver remains the hottest finisher at the track, Bobby Gill. Gill won four consecutive races at the track before Sarvis unseated him in June. Gill currently holds the USAR Hooters ProCup Series record for most wins at a single track with six wins coming at USA.
Gill won all three races there in 2001 and began defense of his third championship with a win here in February. In fact, Sarvis was the first Southern Division driver to win a race in the division other than Gill when he won in June. Gill, who can clinch the #1 seed from the Southern Division at Lakeland, still feels he has to be ready.
"Right now we go to the track to win races," said Gill. "The points don't really matter until the last five races but obviously we want to enter the Championship Series in first-place from our division."
