COONS, REID CONQUER LAWRENCEBURG

PIERCE, COONS, ANDERSON TAKE CHAMPIONSHIPS

August 24, 2002

Lawrenceburg, IN Tucson, Arizona's Jerry Coons, Jr. piloted Bob Parker's potent MidgetCar to a third win in five attempts during the final round of NAMARS Indiana Five Crown Nationals competition Saturday night at the immaculate Lawrenceburg Speedway. Coons lead all thirty laps in dominating fashion from the pole over Critter Malone, Aaron Pierce, defending NAMARS MidgetCar champion Travis Miniea, and 1999 NAMARS MidgetCar champion Matt Westfall. Pierce captured the 2002 NAMARS Championship MidgetCar Series title with an impressive third place finish - the new Champion's first podium performance on dirt. Oddly enough, Pierce drove the #26 Sam Pierce Chevy past two previous NAMARS champions (Miniea and Westfall) along the way. Coons tops the final Five Crown MidgetCar point standings by a mere one point margin over Malone.

Local Indianapolis favorite, AJ Anderson has emerged as the 2002 NAMARS Indiana Five Crown Nationals overall points Champion by a scant six point margin over Coons. An impressive performance considering 166 of the best short track open wheel racers in the world participated in this year's Five Crown Nationals! Anderson also claimed the high points position in Five Crown Sprint Car competition over Coons.

Teenaged Sprint Car sensation, Boston Reid held off veterans Kevin Briscoe, Kevin Thomas, AJ Anderson, and Tim Spindler for his first-ever non-wing Sprint Car victory in the twenty five lap feature event at 'The Burg' Saturday night.

Over one million listeners tuned in to the live webcasts during four of the Five Crown races. The trackside action was called by the "Racin' With D.O." broadcast team on RSBN.net.
