RAIN HALTS 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT LEBANON VALLE
August 25, 2002
West Lebanon, NY-A steady rain that fell all day long forced speedway
officials to cancel the racing program at Lebanon Valley Saturday night. The
speedway was all set to celebrate its 50th anniversary of dirt track racing.
The cars and stars from years gone by were all set to meet the great fans at
Lebanon Valley. Some of the 50th anniversary celebration will be held this
Saturday.
Now all the focus shifts to next Saturday night and the crowning of the
modified and sportsman track champions. Kenny Tremont Jr and Brett Hearn have
been battling hard all year for the right to be called champion. Hearnâ™s
chance at a second Lebanon Valley title took a little hiccup with his 17th
place finish last Saturday night. That finish by Hearn allowed Tremont to
open up a twenty-three-point advantage going into the final night of points.
Hearn would need a poor finish by Tremont to have a shot at the 2002 title.
Who will win the 2002 modified track championship? It will all be decided on
Saturday night as Gable Auto Stores presents this all-important night of
competition. The modifieds, sportsman, pro stocks, rookies and pure stocks
will all be in action Saturday night. The 358-modifieds will also be on hand
as well. Andy Bachetti currently holds a ten-point lead over Hearn in the
quest for the 358-modified title.
This will also set the stage the following week for the CARQUEST KINGS 200
WEEKEND, which will be held September 6th-8th. Thatâ™s three fantastic nights
of action on the high banks of the Lebanon Valley Speedway! On Friday night
the 358-modifieds take to the track for the Turning Stones 358-Modified Tour
100-lap event that has been postponed twice so far in 2002. The Pro Stocks
will also be racing on Friday night. The 358-modifieds take center stage
again on Saturday for the 100-lap Race of Kings. A huge car count is always
on hand for the Race of Kings and the fans will not be disappointed. The
sportsman, rookie and pure stocks will also be on the card Saturday. The big
block modifieds take center stage on Sunday for the CARQUEST NATIONAL 200.
The best names in dirt big block modified racing will converge on the high
banks for 200-laps. Tony Stewart and Dave Blaney are expected to compete in
the CARQUEST 200 after running the Winston Cup event in Richmond on Saturday
night. Along with the modifieds on Sunday the Empire Sports Network Pro Stock
Tour will also be on hand Sunday. Get your tickets now for one of the best
weekends of the racing season. Tickets are going quickly and you donâ™t want
to miss all the action September 6th-8th. Contact the speedway at (518)
794-9606 for ticket information.
The action at Lebanon Valley does not end with the CARQUEST KINGS 200
WEEKEND. There will be racing every Saturday night in September. And of
course the season will conclude with the 20th annual Swap Meet on Sunday,
November 3rd.
