WEASE, MARIETTA WIN THRILLING SPEEDROME FEATURES,
LAWRENCEBURG'S FIVE CROWN NEXT
Speedway, IN (August 22, 2002) Fans and participants alike where treated to what may well be the most exciting two MidgetCar races of the season Thursday night at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Defending Speedrome MidgetCar Series champion Billy Wease finally garnered his first win of the season by less than a car length over Bobby East after a fifty lap non-stop wheel-to-wheel battle whereby the two teenagers where never more than two car lengths apart - even when slicing through heavy lapped traffic. Scott Thoman, Series points leader Aaron Pierce, and Kyle Burch rounded out the top five. Pierce retains a slim thirty point lead over Wease after posting an impressive fourth place finish after being relegated to the tail of the 19 car field due to an early race mishap with Wease while battling for the lead.
Mario Marietta won his second race of the NAMARS Kenyon MidgetCar season, and in a row, after a torrid battle all night long with Series point leaders Bryan Clauson, Scott Thoman, and Jamie Williams. Defending Rookie of the Year, Todd Beach rocketed his way to the front of the field from seventh starting position early in the race, and parlayed his skill - and a perfect race car to a commanding half-lap lead by the mid point of the race, only to have his night end seven laps from the finish when a lapped car made contact with Beach's machine, sending him hard into the turn two marker tire. Clauson continues to control the Series Driver point standings by a scant 41 points over Thoman with six races remaining.
The NAMARS Championship MidgetCars head to Lawrenceburg Speedway Saturday night along with the non-wing Sprint Cars for the final round of the Fourth Annual NAMARS Indiana Five Crown Nationals. Lawrenceburg's Five Crown race was rescheduled for this Saturday after rain washed-out the event last week. AJ Anderson, and Jerry Coons, Jr. will settle the overall Five Crown Points battle, as well as bragging rights in both the MidgetCar and Sprint Car Divisions. The MidgetCars of Critter Malone, Brian Gerster, Shane Hollingsworth, Ryan Durst, Mel Kenyon and many others will join the best on the Indiana Sprint Car scene for the conclusion of this year's Five Crown Nationals. Aaron Pierce will likely clinch the NAMARS Championship MidgetCar Series Driver points title Saturday, in that the Muncie, IN hotshoe only needs to win his heat race, or simply transfer to the A-Main to ensure yet another milestone on his "Road to INDY".
