Dodge notes and quotes. Sharpie 500 Qualifying. PAGE 1.
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 9th
"That's night and day from where we started. The guys made some good adjustments. The second set of tires was a little too loose on entry. We made it a little bit too tight, but that was a decent run. It would have been better if we hadn't tightened it up so much. We'll take it and get it ready for a good race tomorrow night."
BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 5th
"We backed up what we ran in practice, and that's what you've got to do. I knew somebody would beat us because the track is so good. My guys have been working hard. We came here and tested and came back and qualified well. We won the pole here 11 years ago? I don't think that means a thing today. We'll just see where we end up, and hopefully we'll put on a good show here tomorrow night."
DERRIKE COPE (No. 49 MNR Productions Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 29th
"We were really, really loose. We had no grip. We just had to hang on and get through a lap. We were decent in practice and I knew the guys would step it up. To run that and not have any grip was pretty good. We knew we could go a lot faster."
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 27th
"We had been loose all day, so we made about five changes before qualifying and it was terrible. We got it too tight. We'll probably end up in the middle of the pack. We're usually pretty good here at Bristol. We'll get it dialed in and be ready to race."
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 22nd
"I kept making them lower it and it ground the flywheel off of it. They had to push start me to get me going. These guys worked really hard, and that was a good time for us."
CASEY ATWOOD (No. 7 SIRIUS Satellite Radio Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 17th
"We needed to get a good starting spot. Hopefully that will get us in the top 15. We'll go from there and hope for a good run. We picked up more than a tenth from practice, and I'm pretty happy with that. We're less than a tenth off from Bill Elliott, so we're right there. I'm really happy to get back here. Darlington is not one of my better tracks. We've got some good tracks coming up. The SIRIUS Dodge is good at Richmond and Dover and of course Phoenix and Homestead at the end of the year, so I'm really excited about what's coming up down the stretch."
JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 13th
"We ran well here last time, and the draw hurt us a little bit today. Overall, I'm happy. That should get us in the top 10 or 12. We got loose. We tightened it up a little bit, but I guess we didn't tighten it up enough. We'll have it ready to go for the race."
JIMMY SPENCER (No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid R/T) - starts 11th
"We've been a little tight in three and four and it got us again. We just didn't make enough adjustments. We're good through one and two, but we missed it in three and four. We've got a good car here. We did well with it in the spring race. We've got a good starting spot, so I can't complain."
