George L. Miles Jr. Elected to Harley-Davidson Board of Directors
MILWAUKEE, Aug. 22 George L. Miles, Jr., 60, president and chief executive officer of WQED Pittsburgh, has been elected to the Harley-Davidson, Inc. Board of Directors, Jeffrey L. Bleustein, chairman and chief executive of Harley-Davidson announced today.
WQED Pittsburgh is the public broadcaster for southwestern Pennsylvania. Miles, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), joined the station in 1994 as President and Chief Executive Officer and assembled a new management team to reorganize the company to re-connect with the community. Today WQED is one of the nation's premier public broadcasting organizations.
"We are very excited to have someone with George's background in business operations, finance and the community working with us on the Harley-Davidson Board of Directors," said Bleustein. "His specific experience in communications, labor relations and supplier issues will add even more strength to a very active and hard working Board."
Prior to joining WQED, Miles was executive vice president and chief operating officer of WNET/Thirteen New York, where he was directly responsible for operations of the PBS flagship station. Miles was also Business Manager of WPCQ in Charlotte, Vice President and controller of Westinghouse Television Group in New York, and Station Manager of WBZ-TV Boston. Prior to his career in radio, Miles served as an auditor for the U.S. Department of Defense and was with the accounting firm Touche Ross for nine years. Miles is also a U.S. Army veteran and served six months in Vietnam.
Miles is on the Board of Directors of PBS and is a former Chairman of the Association for America's Public Television Stations and the Urban League of Pittsburgh. He is on the Board of Directors of WESCO International, Inc.; Equitable Resources, Inc.; University of Pittsburgh, Civic Light Opera; UPMC Health System; and is on the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Board of Advisors.
