BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada - It was a great day for GM Racing teams as both Cadillac and Corvette earned podium finishes in the 2-hour 45-minute American Racing Series road race held on the 2.459-mile Mosport International Raceway east of Toronto.

It was race number seven of the ALMS 10 race 2002 schedule. Four of the top ten cars were GM Racing entries.

For Team Cadillac, the third-place finish matched the team's best ever finish and the first podium appearance for the all-new, twin-turbo powered Northstar prototype in just its third race in the ALMS series. The driving team of JJ Lehto and Max Angelelli in the No. 8 Cadillac consistently hounded the all-conquering Audis rR8s running as high as second in the middle section of the event which went for 121 laps when the prescribed time expired.

Equally quick was the French pair of Eric Bernard and Emmanuel Collard in the No. 7 Cadillac. Both cars appeared in the top five in the early stages of the race. Unfortunately the car No. 7 assessed a one lap penalty for a ill-timed pit stop while the pits were officially closed during a full course caution period.

For Corvette, the race marked the seventh GTS category win in seven races in the 2002 season. It was win number five for the co-drivers Canadian Ron Fellows and Georgian Johnny O'Connell. Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins scored the other two wins in the sister car.

In qualifying on Saturday, the Corvette crew elected to use a hard compound Goodyear tire instead of a softer tire. The decision may have cost Fellows his seventh consecutive pole as Terry Borcheller nipped Fellows time on the last lap of the qualifying period.

"It was the right decision," said Fellows at the time. "We have to start on the tire we qualify on and the Goodyear tire we used was perfect for the race today. I was able tp open up a bit of a lead by the time I turn the car over to Johnny (O'Connell) and when I got back in we had a one-Lap lead."

"It really was a great thrill for me to win in front of the hometown crowd today," said Fellows. "It is always great to win, but to do it at Mosport is extra special."

"Ron gave me a nice lead," said O'Connell, "and I was able to add to it. With Andy and Kelly finishing second the two Cadillac prototypes right up there chasing the Audis, it was a good day all around for Corvette and Cadillac."
