NEW YORK and DETROIT -- General Motors and the Women's National Basketball Association today announced they have agreed to extend their long-term marketing partnership, which dates back to the league's inception in 1997, with a new multi-year agreement.
Through its WNBA partnership, GM will utilize the league's extensive media assets through an integrated marketing approach that will include: in-game advertising and courtside signage during nationally televised WNBA games on ABC Sports, ESPN, Inc. and Oxygen Media, as well as an interactive presence on WNBA.com.
GM will continue to sponsor the "Player of the Game" for each nationally televised WNBA game, which will also include a $1,000 donation to the "Make-A-Wish Foundation" in that player's name. Over the past two seasons, GM has donated more than $100,000 to the Foundation on behalf of WNBA players. The league's Most Valuable Player Award is also sponsored by GM and the recipient will receive a new GM vehicle.

The 2002 WNBA Playoffs tipped off on August 15, and the 2002 WNBA Finals will get underway on August 29. NBC will broadcast games in all rounds of the postseason, including Game 2 and Game 3 (if necessary) of the WNBA Finals. ESPN/ESPN2 will televise up to 14 games, opening its coverage on August 15 with the "Playoffs Preview: All the Way to Labor Day" on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. EDT, and concluding with Game 1 of the Finals.
