USAR Heads North of the Border
 

          Fayetteville, GA -            For the second consecutive year the USAR Hooters ProCup Series will feature an international atmosphere when Cayuga Speedway hosts the Lucas Oil 250 presented by SM Freight on Saturday August 24th. Last year's successful event saw 1998 USAR Hooters ProCup Series champion and Rookie of the Year Jeff Agnew collect his third career win in the Series.

            The race is also an opportunity for Jason McLellan and John Gaunt, the two Canadian drivers who compete full-time in the USAR Northern Division. Both drivers live in the Canadian province of Ontario, where Cayuga Speedway is located. 

            "We have been looking forward to coming home for a while now," said McLellan. "We enjoy running the Hooters ProCup Series and running at Cayuga gives us a chance for our sponsors, family and friends to come out and see us in person."

            McLellan finished seventh last year at Cayuga Speedway and has already collected the first runner-up finish of his career in the Hooters ProCup Series last month at New River Valley Speedway in Radford, VA.

            "We have had some good runs go bad this season late in the race, so it was right to finish one for a change at New River," McLellan said. "We had a top-five finish going two races in a row before we got caught up in accidents late in the race at Winchester and on the final lap at Salem (Speedway). It felt really good to finally finish one with the car in one piece."

            Gaunt also looks forward to racing at Cayuga Speedway for many of the same reasons as McLellan.

            "It is always nice to race in front of family and friends," Gaunt said. "We have had some good runs at Cayuga and we have had some bad runs there as well. It is one of the biggest race tracks in Canada and we always looked forward to racing there because it gave us a chance to race against some of the best drivers in Canada. Now we will get to race against the guys from the ProCup Series."

            Gaunt raced at the track before in Sportsman and CASCAR-type cars. Although he hasn't won three he has led several races including, one where he suffered mechanical problems late in the race which cost him a chance at a win.

            "We have led some races there before where we had a great chance to win," Gaunt added. "It would be nice to get our first win in this Series at Cayuga. The track is fast and you will have to have your car setup just right. Hopefully we will contend this weekend."

            The Lucas Oil 250 presented by SM Freight will start at 7:30 pm followed by a 75-lap All Star Late Model race.
