ZF Batavia Selects Ryder as Lead Logistics Manager; Ryder to Provide Inbound Supplier Management, Global Transportation Management, Warehousing and Consolidation, and Just-In-Time Deliveries

    MIAMI--Aug. 19, 2002--ZF Batavia, a joint venture of the Ford Motor Company and ZF Friedrichshafen, a leader in manufacturing transmissions and steering systems based in Germany, announced today it has awarded a multi-year, lead logistics manager contract to Ryder System, Inc. , a global leader in supply chain and transportation management solutions.

    "ZF Batavia is a global leader in the design and manufacture of automatic transmissions for the automotive industry," said Kurt Gogolin, ZF Batavia's director of Supplier Management and Procurement Services. "We have partnered with Ryder because of its demonstrated leadership in transportation and freight management services."
    The scope of lead logistics services Ryder provides includes: management and compliance of all inbound materials from 300 suppliers; network design; shipment planning and execution; freight bill audit and payment; global freight management and warehouse management; and just-in-time (JIT) delivery of product to the manufacturing site as required to support transmission production schedules.

    ZF Batavia is a joint venture formed between ZF Friedrichshafen of Germany and Ford Motor Company in January 1999. The operation was previously a Ford transmission manufacturing plant. The joint venture was formed in order to mass-produce a new technology transmission called a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
    Batavia manufactures about 350,000 four-speed automatic transmissions for the Ford Escape, Mercury Cougar, Mazda 626 and European Mondeo.
