Can-Am PERIS WINS TWO IN A ROW

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PERIS WINS TWO IN A ROW
Round four of the Diablo Paintball was run this past weekend at the
Atlantic Motorsports Park in Shubenacadie, NS with the Canadian Superbike
Series. This round of the Can-Am series was classified as a full Canadian
National, therefore it had all of the pomp and pageantry of the Superbike
race.
Round four was truly an international affair. Along with riders from
Canada and the US, including John Hjelm who made the 35 hour tow from
Morrison, Colorado, twelve riders from Bermuda filled a cargo container
and shipped it in so they could race, making this a true North American
125 race!
With all of the starters bikes parked on the starting grid there was a
full rider walkout complete with umbrella girls, and in racer Angela Hibas
situation Honda Canadas Frank Trombino was an umbrella boy!
There was not an empty place to view the race as the entire maritime
province seemed to have turned out for the weekend and as the 125s fired
for their warm up lap, everyone was jammed up against a fence. The pit
lane wall was covered with factory riders to watch the eighteen lap race
with several volunteering to handle riders pit boards!
Series points leader Dave Wright was riding this weekend, though he was
still recovering from separating his shoulder in a crash at Mosport.
Wright was determined to grind it out for the weekend to try and preserve
his points lead, or at least not to loose to many points to Corey Sherman.
Honda Canadas Chris Peris was on pole with a 1:12.337, shattering the old
track record by over a second. Corey Sherman just missed the pole with a
1:12.492.
Chris Peris must have been studying videos of the AMA Superbike series
because he tired to do an Eric Bostrom and check out from the 31 rider
field on the opening lap of the eighteen lap event. Try as he might
though he could never pull more than five bike lengths over Sherman and
third place Stuart Nodell in the opening laps.
Sherman and Peris would swap the lead several times a lap throughout the
entire race with Nodell putting his nose up there every few laps to let
Sherman and Peris know that he hadnt gone anywhere. Meanwhile Dave Wright
was gritting it out in fourth place riding though tremendous pain. For
the last two thirds of the race first to third were never separated by
more than two bike lengths!
If you scanned the spectators during the race, everyone was on their feet
holding their breath then exclaiming, I cant BELIEVE he made that pass,
or, There is NO WAY he can go that fast through the corner. as the lead
trio made their way through.
For the last three laps it looked as if Sherman was laying back waiting to
make his move on the last lap. Unfortunately for Sherman, Nodell and
Peris had the same idea and the last two laps were run in the 1:12.1s!
Sherman tried to make a run in the last couple corners, but Peris held off
Sherman and Nodell to take his second win in the series.
As the riders completed their TV interviews after the race they all agreed
that was the hardest race they had all ever had and most the enjoyable.
The penultimate round of the Diabl Paintball Can-Am125 GP series heads
back to Grattan Raceway in Michigan August 23-25 to run with Michigan
Cycle Fest.
