Ferrari Drivers Move into GT Points Lead Dyson Inches Closer to Theys in SRP Standings DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 14, 2002) -- The Rolex Sports Car Series released its latest point standings following the Bully Hill Vineyards 250 on August 9 at Watkins Glen International, revealing a new points leader in the GT class. Ferrari of Washington's GT win at The Glen propelled the team and its drivers, Bill Auberlen and Cort Wagner, into the lead in the both the team and driver point standings. The latest driver standings show Auberlen and Wagner tied for first place with 208 points. Former leader Kevin Buckler, of The Racer's Group, slid to third place where he is tied with Perspective Racing's Joao Barbosa five points behind the leaders. The Ferrari of Washington #33 Ferrari 360GT also took over the lead in the GT team standings, but with only a narrow one-point advantage over Perspective Racing's #24 Mosler MT900. The Racer's Group #66 Porsche GT3 R is in third place, seven points down to the leader. Chris Dyson continues to cut into Didier Theys' lead in the SportsRacing Prototype driver standings. Theys, who has 225 points, saw his advantage cut from 13 points to nine following the Bully Hill Vineyards 250. Dyson's co-driver, James Weaver, is third in the SRP driver standings, 11 points behind the leader. Doran Lista Racing's #27 Judd-powered Dallara also held its lead in the team standings, but had its leading margin reduced from nine points to five by Dyson Racing Team's #16 Ford-engined Riley & Scott. While Kerry Hitt, of ACP Motorsports, maintained his lead in the American GT driver standings with 190 points, Morgan Dollar Racing's Andrew Richards leaped from fifth to second place after posting a podium finish at The Glen. Richards trails Hitt by 20 points. Another Morgan Dollar driver, Rob Morgan, made a jump in the AGT driver standings, advancing from sixth place to third, where he is tied with last year's champion Doug Goad with 157 points. Morgan Dollar Motorsports also improved in the team point standings with the #46 Corvette taking the lead. The ACP Motorsports #19 Corvette is 10 points back in second place. Terry Borcheller strengthened his lead in the SportsRacing Prototype II class after winning his fifth race of the season in the #8 Nissan Lola of Rand Racing. Borcheller has 235 points, while Darren Law is in second place with 183. Anthony Lazzaro, who has also been racing in Indy cars this season, is in third with 175 points. Rand Racing also holds a dominating lead in the team points, with its #8 Nissan in front followed by G&W Motorsports #70 BMW-powered Picchio. Chris Bingham appears to be on his way to a second-straight GTS driver championship. The Saleen driver leads the points with 224. His closest rival, Rodney Mall, has 176 points. Bingham's Park Place Racing #5 Saleen S7R is at the top of the class team standings with a prevailing lead over second-place Team Greeneman. There was little change in the manufacturer standings following the Bully Hill Vineyards 250. Though their leads were reduced slightly, Dallara and Judd remain at the top of the SRP chassis and engine standings, respectively. Nissan and Lola continue to dominate the SRPII point standings, as does Saleen in GTS and Chevy in American GT. Porsche held onto its lead in the GT manufacturer rankings, but saw its advantage nearly cut in half by Ferrari, which trails the leader by only nine points after three-straight wins. Mosler also continues to be in the hunt as it sits in third place, 15 points back. The Rolex Sports Car Series will travel next to VIRginia International Raceway for the VIR 500 on Labor Day weekend, August 30th - September 1st.
