Morgan and Bennett Announce Transaction
ELKHART, Ind.--Aug. 14, 2002--Bennett Truck Transport, L.L.C. ("Bennett"), headquartered in McDonough, Georgia and Morgan Drive Away, Inc. ("Morgan") (AMEX:MG) of Elkhart, Indiana jointly announced the purchase by Bennett of the manufactured housing transportation division of Morgan, effective immediately.Morgan's President, Mike Archual explained that a combination of factors including a two year decline in shipments by manufacturers, consolidation in the manufactured housing industry, and dramatically increased costs for liability and cargo insurance led Morgan to exit that segment of the market and to concentrate on Morgan's other lines of business.
Bennett's President, Danny Lowry, explained that the opportunity to acquire the assets of Morgan provided his company the chance to provide a smooth transition for Morgan's former owner/operators and customers. "For many years, Morgan has been one of our major competitors, as we have both shared and competed for customers and Owner/Operators," stated Lowry. "It is a great honor that Morgan approached Bennett about this transaction in light of Morgan's decision to depart the manufactured housing transportation market," Lowry continued.
Joining Bennett as a part of the transaction will be Kermit Wolff, the former President of Weststar Systems, Inc. and a Morgan alumni. Shortly before the Bennett/Morgan announcement, Wolff, had agreed to rejoin Morgan as a Regional Director of a Morgan "Super Terminal" in Waco, Texas. "Bennett is particularly excited about having Kermit Wolff join our team and utilize his experience in servicing our customers in this unique segment of the transportation industry," said Lowry.
Bennett's acquisition of Morgan's manufactured housing transportation division also resulted in the settlement of certain litigation originally brought by Morgan against Bennett and certain former Morgan employees. Both companies announced their pleasure that past and present employees of Morgan will continue to serve their long-term friends in the manufactured housing industry.
"Obviously, this is an exciting time for Bennett," concluded Lowry.
